The term was coined by Taichi Ohno, Toyota's industrial engineer. 

When you shop in a grocery store, you're not stocking up for months or years to come. Neither does the store hold items that it just doesn't expect to sell right now. Conversely, you tailor your shopping list to what you need right now, just as the store bases its supply of products on customer demand. Kanban mimics this arrangement by allowing the demand for the output of the firm to control its supply.

The Kanban strategy maintains inventory limits for all existing processes. This frees up extra resources and makes better use of them. The Kanban process operates on an elegant and simple idea: this only activates the production process when the demand requires it. Both brought more spotlight to the business operations itself but improved efficiency.

Pareto chart

Pareto Chart is a diagrammatic display of the Pareto Principle: in either given situation, 20% of the feedback generates 80% of the output. The graph integrates a perpendicular bar graph with a line graph. The bar graph represents the statistics of the different components of the business process, purchased from the highest to the lowest. The line graph is the cumulative total of these metrics.

Pareto Plan is a chart that reconstructs on which step of the task most influences output. To generate such a chart, initially figure out the elements of the procedure and how to evaluate them. Once you've done that, you can put the data in the Pareto Chart. This will help you see how much influence each component has on the outcome. 

Process mapping:

Business process mapping is a way to represent the work processes and to effectively understand how things work. A standard map identifies the duties, commitments and guidelines involved with the process. It introduces this information in a proper way that recognizes the step in the process along with who is accountable, what inputs and outputs are, and other information relevant to the process.

Business process mapping is a benefit and incentives in problem-solving. It analyses the whole process, making it much easier to see what's wrong and get straight to the root cause. It also allows us to understand the roles of people in the process and ensure that anyone knows what to do. In addition, business process mapping is great for identifying potential risks that the process creates. 

There are several types of process maps. They are: Flowchart, value stream map, swimlane diagram, and SIPOC diagram.

  • Flowchart is the most common process map type. While this process map is less flexible, it can be easily drawn by hand or in software such as MS Office.
  • Flowcharts are often used to create workflow diagrams.
  • Swimlane diagram is similar to generic flowcharts, except that it is better structured in terms of who does what.
  • The value stream map is a deeper option to the flow chart. It's prevalent for lean six sigma operations, and you may find it harder to analyze at a glance.
  • SIPOC Diagram (Supplier Inputs Process Outputs Customer) is the most visually simplified map. It focuses on the essentials of the process and on the people involved.

Project charter:

The Project Charter is a document which defines the objective and design of the research. It tends to work both as a template for the business operations and as a lawful permission for the project. Project charter typically involves project background and scope, team and resource details, and timelines. It gives you all the basic information about the project and the main points are clarified.

The main advantage of a project charter is that it keeps the story less unpredictable. Developing a project charter allows you to keep a real direction on just what your proposal is all about. It allows us to understand the plan of the system and the relationship between the people involved. RACI matrix:

Responsibility Assignment Matrix, also recognized as the RACI matrix, is a table describing the duties of each team member for each assignment of the business operations. RACI originally stood for Responsible, Accountable, Consulted and Informed – the key responsibilities most frequently used in the matrix.

Taking responsibility relates to anyone whose role is to carry out the task. Financially liable is the individual who assigns tasks to others and monitors their progress. There is always only one person to be accountable for each task. Experts on the subject, whose opinions guide those working on the task, are consulted. Finally, you will be informed of the people you notify once you have completed the task.

Typically, the RACI matrix has the duties on the left side of the table and the team members on the top row. At the interface of the two cells, the letter corresponds to the authentication method within the task. This simple system will help each team member to understand fully their role in the process. It also enables you to see discrepancies in the team setup and the roles.

DMAIC is a five-phase improvement cycle; defines, measures, analyzes, improves and controls. It provides a structure for the improvement process and ensures that each change is based on careful analysis and useful data. A3 is a structured problem-solving approach that takes its name from the size of the paper used before digital tools became available. The A3 report is the result of an improvement cycle such as DAMIC or PDSA.

Regression analysis:

Analysis of regression is a statistical process for estimating and understanding the relationship between variables.You would use this to define the mathematical relationship between the output variable (y) and any number of input variables (x1, x2, etc.)Graphing these inputs and outputs helps you visualize patterns or deviations from the desired patterns in your workflow.

Be careful when executing a regression analysis, however, if you want to avoid statistical illusions. Here are some things to remember when performing a regression analysis:

  • When two results are considered to be strongly linked, it is trying to imply that this shows that one variable affects the other, likely to result in a logical error known as correlation that does not imply causation.
