Could someone explain to me what SAP instance is? Is it also installed on the SAP application server?

SAP instance refers to the group of resources like dispatcher, memory, gateway, work processes, etc that are used for a single database server or an application within the SAP R/3 client and server environment. There are three types of instances in SAP. They are dialog instance, database instance and central instance. Hence it is said in the below wau.


SAP system = Dialog instance + Central Instance + Database instance.
