Process builder is used to perform the below actions apart from workflow:


Creation of record
Updation of any related record.
Using a quick action for creation, updation of a record.
Launching of a flow
Sending an email.
Post to chatter
Submission for an approval
Call apex methods
Does not support outbound messages.



Workflow: Workflow performs the below actions:



Creation of a task.
Field updation
Email alert
Outbound message
